Kelleys Life 2021 Jan-Feb – The annual park lighting and a photo of those who decorated the park. From the Mayor’s Desk: MetroHealth, Russ Maust selected as EMS Director, the Village secured a $60,000 Cares Act grant. The Carolers: Dave Sellers, Jim Erne, Chuck Poston, Sam Beaty, Bob Maier, Eric Longbrake, Scott Smith, Scott Shaull and Knut Lahrs visited 14 homes. EMS News – looking forward and thanks to Sharon Devine and Bernie Koshla (both now retired) and thanks to Island businesses like the Island Market which raised $3500. KI Landowners Assoc. event dates. Dawn & Chris Gore welcomed grandchild Sydney-parents Kate & Joe Sears. Liam Neu graduated from the KI school. Christmas bird count: Tom Bartlett reported they found 80 species and 40,992 individuals over the four islands (most of those were starlings) and quite a few rare birds. 24 Bald Eagles were observed on the islands. Northern Bartlett also reported 2020, the 18th season of owl research, banding 174 northern saw-whet owls and 7 screech owls over 46 nights. The KI History museum blog featured the Titus Road statue, stone fences, the Influenza epidemic of 1920 and the Island’s telegraph cable. A featured donation was a lovely Free No. 5 treadle sewing machine c1913. The Parsonage Resale Shop plans for an exceptional Valentine’s Day shopping experience. KILA supports the community – this year they purchased 13 trash containers for the Village and donated $500 to the VFW for the street flags. The Mayor’s report-thanks to KILA for their donation, village plans to upgrade the public restrooms, and welcomes 11 new EMS and 8 new Fire Dept. responders. New business open – Meg’s Makeshop. A story about Lois Whitacres Giles. The Zion Community Church to hold Vacation Bible School. Articles from the KI Brew Pub (as they transition to an event center) and the Parsonage resale shop.
